Navy names new Northwest regional commander

Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Gary Roughead announced yesterday that Rear Adm. (lower half) Douglass T. Biesel will be assigned as commander, prosthetic Navy Region Northwest, which is headquartered in Silverdale, Wash.  Biesel is currently serving as commander, Navy Region Marianas/U.S. Pacific Command representative Guam, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Republic of Palau/Commander, U.S. Naval Forces, Marianas.

Biesel was the Commanding Officer of SUBASE Bangor when it was decided to consolidate Bremerton and Bangor into Naval Base Kitsap. After his selection to flag rank, he commanded Navy Region Midwest, in Great Lakes, IL, before transferring to Guam last year.

"RDML Biesel’s return to the Great Northwest is outstanding for the Navy Region," said Rear Adm. James A. Symonds, Commander, Navy Region Northwest. "The entire staff joins me in congratulating him and welcoming him back."

"We will miss the island of Guam and its rich culture and history. My family and I are excited to return to the beautiful Pacific Northwest," said Rear Adm. Douglass R. Biesel, Commander, Navy Region Marianas.

No date has been set for the change of command, but it is anticipated for later this summer.
