Christopher Dunagan has this story in the Kitsap Sun:
To reduce environmental damage caused by boat anchors, a state diving group will pay for mooring buoys at nine popular dive spots in Hood Canal and five spots elsewhere in Puget Sound.
Washington Department of Natural Resources this week approved a five-year license for the buoys, which include a helix anchor for minimizing disturbance to the environmentally sensitive areas.
“Three years of hard work is about to be realized,” said Jim Trask of Washington Scuba Alliance, which sought the permits. “DNR and we have developed a strong partnership with the goal of protecting our wonderful waters and sea life. Alpha Marine Installations will begin the installation of these buoys, which the alliance will maintain.”
