MIKE ARCHBOLD and KATHLEEN MERRYMAN have the story in the Tacoma News Tribune: the photo is by Drew Perine.
Tom Kurtz awoke early Friday to a sheet of fire outside his blufftop home in Steilacoom. Below his house on the beach at Saltars Point, the old Steilacoom Marina was a raging inferno.
“I looked out the bedroom window,” he said. “It was like a wall of flames … a hundred feet high.”
Three fireboats and more than 50 firefighters from eight fire departments responded to the 4:30 a.m. fire, which was reported by McNeil Island Corrections Center employees.
