Port of Bellingham takes next step in NOAA bid

by Tim Flanagan on January 27, 2009

NOAA_Seal John Stark of the Bellingham Herald has a piece on the Port of Bellingham’s efforts to entice NOAA to set up shop there.

Port of Bellingham commissioners hoped for the best Tuesday, cheap Jan. 27, discount as they took another step toward luring the NOAA marine operations center here from Seattle.

After a two-hour closed session to discuss the details, the three commissioners voted unanimously to submit a detailed proposal to the federal agency.

Commissioners and port staff admitted they don’t know for certain whether Bellingham has a serious chance to become the NOAA center’s new home starting in mid-2011, when its existing lease on Seattle facilities expires. The new lease would be for 20 years.
